Black and White 2
Black and White 4
This gallery started its life as sort of a collection of B-sides and rarities. When I first put the gallery together in 2014, I went back through my old images and gave new life to some favourites, which hadn’t made it on to the website, by converting them to black and white. In 2016, I replaced various images in the gallery with new ones, mostly shot in 2015 or later (including 6. Bank Building and 8. Deer Skull on Concrete). Then, in early 2017, I replaced more images, with some shot in the past (1. Girl in a Fancy Shirt) and more recently (9. Gardiner at Night and 16. Bowl of Roses). Finally, in Summer 2017 I replaced two more images with new ones (3. Flag Pole and 5. Giant Duck). The end result is a mix of new and old images, with an emphasis on people, architecture, and landscapes.
Black and White 3
The majority of the photographs in this gallery were taken in 2010, with my 17-40 mm lens. In general, the images are a little calmer, and lower contrast, than those in the other black and white galleries on this site.
Black and White 2
Like Black and White 1, the photographs in this gallery span a period of years and use a variety of styles. However, this gallery has a bias towards photographs shot in Toronto, on trips to other places in Ontario and on vacation in Florida and Alberta.
Black and White 1
This gallery is made up mostly of photographs taken with my Canon Rebel XT or Canon Rebel Xsi, plus one taken with my Canon A80 (a great little 4 megapixel compact camera, since deceased). The photographs were taken from 2005 to 2011.
I used to take 35 mm black and white photographs back in the 1980s, so I have a special place in my heart for monochrome images. There is something special and pure about a black and white photograph that most colour photographs can’t touch.
